Lothien.... the Old World.... my home. Here's where I will begin to describe the world that made me (and basically a rundown of the rules I live by, since they all stem from the time I spent here) I wasn't born here in natural childbirth terms, but I was made here...
True, there's not much yet, but I need to get it written, here's an outline of what's to come....
MAGIC
Lothien contains two kinds of magic. Some call it Good and Evil, Light and Dark, Additive and Subtractive, Positive and Negative.... whichever way you look at it, there are two sides. As with everything, even magic has balance, and one side is needed to balance the other.
LANGUAGE
You won't find English spoken here, it's understood by some of the people, but if you want to survive for any length of time you have to pick up the native language ( I believe the cliche begins "when in Rome..."). SOundwise, it seems like a combination of German, Russian and something you have to listen to twice to name. It's a very animalistic gutteral language - as most of the inhabitants of Lothien are part animal and it's much easier to speak with fangs. If you want an example go to ShadowDrift, there's a wall plaque outside of the UnderBridge Caern.... I wrote it. The name of the language is Old Loth.... simple enough, eh?
LAWS AND THEIR ENFORCEMENT
Here's where you REALLY know Lothien is different from any other world. Law here is the word of gods, you break it and you're more likely to pay with your life than anything else. Each law is strictly upheld as if by religious zealots... and perhaps we are. There's also a precise order to how these little "breaches" are controlled. First you have the Bounty Hunters who are sort of like your modern day police, except muchmore brutal. These men and women are told to arrest someone, and will by any means neccesary, dead or alive. They will then bring the prisoner (not "accused," or "victim," I mean prisoner. I should know, I used to lead a squad) into the Courts. The Courts of Lothein also act as center of government. Sentence here fits if not supercedes the crime (eg.: theft equals loss of hand, rape equals torture and death, unexcused murder equals being buried alive). I'll break this down more later to make it more understandable....
Yep, this stuff is copyrighted too, 1996. All of this has come out of my head since then. Thank you for not plagiarizing
